Um Al Qiwain alternative transcriptions Umm Al-Qawain,
Umm Al-Qaywayn, Umm el-Qiwain or Umm Al-Quwain) is one of the seven
absolute monarchies which constitute the United Arab Emirates. Less
populated, with 40.000 inhabitants in 1997, it is not smallest in surface,
since it extends on 750 km². The current emir is Rachid ibn Ahmad
Al Mu' went. Contrary to the majority of the other emirates, it does
not draw its incomes from oil, but from the sale of postage stamp and
the alcohol trade. The more traditional activities are the fishing and
the culture of dates.
